| TRADITIONAL WEDDING |
| |
| |
| A wedding in the Kingdom of Nepal is a major celebration which may continue over several days. The festivities incorporate a big party, lively music, a feast, much dancing and, of course, fun for all concerned! Decorations include colorful paper flowers and twinkling lights. A Nepalese bride will dress in the bridal color of red, will be beautifully made up and will wear much jewelry. Traditionally, the bride and groom are being carried to the wedding ceremony. In a village this may be in a basket or by horse; at a city wedding transportation is more likely to be by a parade of cars. A priest or monk will bless the couple, gifts are exchanged and then the party really begins. Among Sherpa and other Mongolian tribes, there is a separate ritual to be performed at monastery. Traditional dress is worn by both bride and groom, and Lama (Monk) does all customary puja (worship) to solemnize the wedding. Nepal is a Hindu nation with a significant Buddhist influence. The country is a whirlwind of colorful and exotic cultural expression, particularly in its art, dance and music. All of this contributes to making a Nepalese wedding day totally unique. Monasteries located at Pangboche or Namche can be ideal place for wedding with the blessing from senior monks at the backdrop of Himalayan Peaks including Mt. Everest. All these make Nepal a perfect destination for wedding.
