Prince Charles Trek
PRINCE CHARLES TREK

This trek has been named as Royal Trek(1800m) after Prince Charles of UK who sauntered through the small hills in early eighties along with 90 entourage. Mick Jagger of Rolling Stone Fame also trekked this trail after Prince Charles. The Royal trek is highly recommended for beginners. It is a litmus test for those who want to try trekking but are unsure about the physical demands. As the route does not ascend to high altitude, the climate is warmer and you will have the opportunity to stroll through the rice terraced fields. This lower hill short circuit can be fitted into any travel itinerary and offers great views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and Lamjung. It gives an opportunity to explore the villages of the middle hills mingling with Gurungs known for bravery and mountain tribes.

The trail climbs gently along a ridge top through Brahmin and Chettri villages towards Kalikastan, which continues along the forested ridge top through Thulokot to Mathi Thana reaching Shaklung. The Royal trek route climbs towards Chisopani, winding around the back of the hill to the village where there is a temple with splendid mountain views. From there trail descend from Chisopani Danda along the ridge into a small valley and a stream that feeds Rupa Tal. Walk along the rice field with a final ascent to the ridge that separates Begnas Tal and Rupa Tal. A little descend from the ridge takes you to Begnas Bazar, from where you will be taken to Pokhara by car or bus. While here, the trekker can easily spend several days experiencing local life-style, handicraft production and sightseeing. Folk songs and dances are an important part of Gurung life and cultural performances are a common occurrence in this area. Though the trek is short, the memories live forever.
